Background context
Dujiangyan has diverted the Min River across the Chengdu Plain for more than two thousand years without relying on a conventional dam. Its three-part system divides flow, releases sediment and controls the volume entering the irrigation network. Panda Valley adds a different view of Sichuan: conservation work at the edge of the animals’ native mountain habitat rather than a purely urban display.
