Down into the karst
A full descent into Wulong’s karst, combining the scale of the Natural Three Bridges with the narrower geology of a fissure gorge.
What you’ll do
- Drive from Chongqing into Wulong and descend into the Natural Three Bridges scenic area, using the direct visitor route selected for the day.
- Walk beneath the Tianlong, Qinglong and Heilong natural bridges and through the Tiankeng valley, with time to read the cliffs from below rather than only from a viewpoint.
- Continue through Longshuixia Fissure Gorge, then use the chosen Wujiang route—either a Chibi viewing stop or a Furong River cruise—before returning to Chongqing.
Background context
Wulong’s landscape formed as soluble limestone was fractured and dissolved by water, leaving sinkholes, caves, gorges and enormous natural arches. The Three Natural Bridges are part of the South China Karst UNESCO landscape. Walking from the broad tiankeng into the tighter fissure gorge makes the geological process legible in changes of scale, water and rock.
