Day by day

Half day

From civic square to inner court

A guided reading of Beijing’s ceremonial center, with passport-linked reservations handled in advance and the route adjusted to live access conditions.

What you’ll do

  • Meet near the imperial-city axis, complete the security and passport checks, and receive an orientation to the ceremonial plan before entering the palace complex.
  • Enter the Forbidden City through Meridian Gate and trace the central sequence of ceremonial halls before moving into the more intimate residential courts.
  • After the palace visit, continue to Tiananmen Square under the separate reservation to place its modern civic monuments beside the older imperial axis.

Background context

The Forbidden City was the political and ritual center of the Ming and Qing courts for nearly five centuries. Its strict north–south plan, layered gates and changing scale were designed to express hierarchy: public state ceremony occupied the outer court, while the inner court organized dynastic family life. Tiananmen Square now places that imperial axis beside the institutions and monuments of modern China.
